Ingredients: organic blood orange fruit and peel
Scent and flavor: at the same time very expressive and nicely balanced, the smell and taste of this eau de vie is a very similar experience to biting into a whole orange.
The initial idea behind this distillate was using up the pulp we were left with after peeling the blood oranges for our Blood Orange Gin. Two winters in a row, we were collecting, fermenting, and distilling blood oranges and working on the recipe to include the peel and to balance the flavors.
As opposed to mild, tender mandarine we have worked with before, blood orange eau de vie had a very citrussy character already after fermentation, but to round up the whole orange experience, we couldn’t exclude the peel- the essential part of this fruit.
This eau de vie has all the characteristics of an orange, the good and “the bad”: there’s acidity, there’s bitterness, there are citrus oils, and we didn’t want to hide those flavors. During the two years of work on this distillate we realized that blood orange could not be tamed, nor should it be- it had to stay wild in order to stay true to itself.
Drinking it could be perceived as an attack on the senses, and we consider it our best eau de vie so far.

The aromas come forward best at room temperature (15 to 20°C), and we recommend serving this drink in a tulip-shaped glass.
